Market Awards and Birthdays
Significant anniversaries for Blackheath, Queen's Park, and High Street Kensington. Award nominations for Blackheath and Queen's Park.
September is a very busy month for our markets and not just in terms of the volume of brilliant produce available to buy; we have several market anniversaries to celebrate and not one but two award nominations!

First, our Blackheath Farmers Market marked a very special milestone last month – our 25th anniversary! To celebrate a quarter century of bringing fresh, local produce to the community, we filled the day with fun activities for all ages. One of the highlights was a spectacular cake baked by our talented producer Cakehole, which featured in a classic “Guess the Weight of the Cake” contest. A big congratulations goes to our winner, a lovely lady, whose winning guess took home the prize. Not to be outdone, our friends at Bread Bread created a show-stopping “25” bun cake that was shared and enjoyed by everyone. Children got stuck into a lively game of Farmers Market Bingo, while visitors of all ages were encouraged to enter our “Best Market Photograph” competition on Instagram for the chance to win a special hamper from the market. It was a joyful day of community spirit, laughter, and of course plenty of great food – a perfect way to celebrate 25 years of Blackheath Farmers Market, a big thank you to everyone that attended, both producers and customers.
Blackheath has also been nominated for the best market category in the Mayor of Lewisham business awards! Obviously we think it should win so please so please vote for your market here: Mayor of Lewisham Buiness Awards Vote Now. Why not look for other local businesses you love amongst the nominees and give them your vote too. The deadline to vote is Monday the 13th of October.

We’re thrilled to share that High Street Kensington Farmers Market is turning 5! This, the youngest of our markets, has blossomed into a great community market serving the residents of Kensington. Join us on Sunday 21st September as we celebrate. To mark the occasion, our wonderful producers have planned some extra-special treats. We’re also delighted to welcome Radhika Howarth, author of Flavours Without Borders, for a special book signing. Radhika’s cookbook is a vibrant celebration of global cuisine, blending stories, traditions, and recipes that encourage readers to explore exciting flavours while cooking with heart and creativity.

We’re turning 20 at Queen’s Park Farmers Market and can’t wait to celebrate with you on Sunday 28th September! Our wonderful friends at Bread Bread will be baking a special “20” bun cake for everyone to enjoy, and another of our brilliant producers Cakehole will be making a giant cake for our fun “Guess the Weight” competition. The winner will take home a hamper filled with produce of their choice from the market. For the kids, we’ll have a Farmers Market Bingo to complete as they explore the stalls. It’s going to be a joyful day of food, fun, and community — and we’d love to see you there!

We are really excited that Queen's Park Farmers Market has made it to the finals of the prestigious Farm Retail Association Farmers Market of the Year Awards. Farmers Markets from all over the country are nominated for this award but only three get as far as the final round. We now have a nail-biting wait while the market is scrutinised, judged, and its qualities are weighed against those of the other finalists!
