Can you believe that this year marks the 5th anniversary of West Hampstead farmers market? Thank you so much for your support; we hope that you
keep enjoying the market for another 5 years.
The markets popularity has grown over the years and we now have a full range of stalls most Saturdays. In order to build on this success and to ensure you have access to supplies on other days of the week we have requested to use the site on the other six days of the week. A smaller daily food market; this would offer all the essentials you need both in terms of produce and more convenience foods on your way to and from work. By trading during the week we will be able to invest more in the market making it a better place to shop and relax. We will also be able to invest more in stall infrastructure to ensure stallholders can present their products in a more professional way, with better looking stalls. We will also invest in a power supply which will help all market stalls and enable us to have lighting in the evenings to make the space feel more inviting. A daily market on West End Lane will keep the High Street vibrant and benefit surrounding businesses attracting footfall and making the area an even more exciting destination.
The weekday food market would have a core produce offering every day of the week with a Farm Shop on site offering fruit, vegetables and other produce. There will be a daily baker, juicer, flower stall, a farm stall with meat and guest stalls like fish but also with a few more new stalls offering a breakfast, lunch and supper options. We know how popular the wood fired pizza has been and they would like to have a more regular presence. We hope to expand our farmers market café offering with a seasonal daily changing menu. With around 10 stalls at the most during the week there will still be plenty of space for commuters to pass through and for lots of seating. We are looking at the idea of some guest / seasonal markets on Sundays as well as a resident farmer with a Sunday Roast.
We want to make it more of a public space that will encourage local people to spend time there. The market space is at the centre of West Hampstead and is under used. Currently the space is fairly windswept during the week and is merely a walk through to and from the station. You may have noticed that we have cleaned up the area around the base of the trees and our next step is to commission some bespoke seating and hopefully have some covered tables for visitors. We believe that the space could feel more like a public garden with some suitable planters and seats, it could be a great garden for the community to meet and relax. We have offered to pay for cigarette bins near the station to stop littering in the area and we are also exploring the idea of Christmas lights in the main trees on the junction with West End Lane.
The Saturday Farmers market will remain unchanged 10am – 2pm. We hope that you are excited by these ideas and will support our planning application to make this a reality so please click here to support our application.
